The outlet responsible for a majority of government-backed Russian media in the U.S. has officially registered as a foreign agent.

The Russian publication known as RT, or Russia Today, filed their registration on Monday, and will now be branded as the product of a foreign government.

The registration comes after months of back-and-forth between RT and the Justice Department.

As the Justice Department made it clear, RT has the right to publish anything it wants..

The Russian ambassador to the U.S. had kind words to share with the Kremlin-backed outlet.

“I would like to express our support to your activities, and would like to say that we are very much consumed about what’s going on with Russia Today and to assure you we are together with you,” stated Ambassador Anatoly Antonov.

The U.S. has overlooked the media outlet’s ties to the Kremlin in hopes to avoid retaliation against American media outlets in Russia.

However, their position changed following pressure from intelligence agencies who say RT played an influential role in the 2016 presidential election.
