Rep. Debbie Dingell said Wednesday that the #MeToo movement played a role in Democrats’ victory in Alabama, but that the national conversation on sexual harassment needs to expand.

“I think that the #MeToo movement was an absolute player in this election and that mothers were disturbed by a possible pedophile being elected to the United States Senate,” Ms. Dingell, Michigan Democrat, said on CNN.

“The question is how are we going to go forward?” she asked.

Ms. Dingell said that she spoke with constituents in her district and said mothers of sons are concerned that the movement is becoming women against men. She said that the sexual harassment movement has to be about treating everyone with respect, in addition to supporting women coming forward with allegations.

“We got to figure out how we treat everybody with respect going forward and everybody — men and women — working together,” Ms. Dingell said.
