Rep. John Delaney said Friday that the American people will respond more to government working for them rather than a specific “party battle cry.”
“I think what the American people understand deeply is that their government has failed them, it’s stopped doing things, and that they’re paying the price,” Mr. Delaney, Maryland Democrat, said on MSNBC.
“So I think that’s actually what they care about more than some of these rallying, party battle cries,” he added.
Mr. Delaney announced in July that he plans to run for president in 2020 and has been pushing the Democratic Party to reach out to voters in red states. He was first elected to Congress in 2012 after working as an entrepreneur and businessman.
