Rep. Peter King said Wednesday that the Republican Party must distance themselves from Steve Bannon after losing the Alabama Senate seat to Democrat Doug Jones.

“After Alabama disaster GOP must do right thing and DUMP Steve Bannon. His act is tired, inane and morally vacuous. If we are to Make America Great Again for all Americans, Bannon must go! And go NOW!!” Mr. King, New York Republican, tweeted.

Mr. Bannon, who was President Trump’s former White House chief strategist, was one of the first people to back Republican candidate Roy Moore in the race, and continued to sustain his campaign even after allegations of sexual misconduct became public. Mr. Moore was accused by multiple women of trying to pursue physical relationships with them when they were teens and he was an adult.

The allegations contributed to the surprising victory of Democratic candidate Doug Jones in Tuesday’s special election.

Mr. King accused Mr. Bannon of looking like a “disheveled drunk” and said that he plays up racial tensions in political campaigns.

“This is not the type of person we need in politics, and last night’s election was a manifestation of a revulsion by the American people,” Mr. King said on CNN.

Mr. Bannon plans to play a role in other races in next year’s midterm election. He has reportedly already backed a few candidates and is taking meetings with those considering a bid.
