The White House is taking another step to boost government efficiency, and reduce wasteful spending.
President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday to empower chief information officers — or CIO’s — at federal agencies.
The move gives CIO’s more control over agency budgets — in particular — information technology’ spending, which amounts to $90 billion per year.
CIO’s will now report directly to the heads of agencies they work for to increase accountability in the federal government.
The White House says the move will also promote IT modernization, which some agencies have said is 10-to-20-years overdue.
