The EU is set to slap additional tariffs on American products, targeting President Trump’s supporters.
EU officials said the new retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. would go into effect next month.
The proposed 25-percent duties will affect $3.3 billion worth of U.S. trade, specifically targeting Harley Davidson Motorcycles, blue jeans and bourbon liquor.
The measures are designed to hurt U.S. manufacturers championed by President Trump.
Meanwhile, British Foreign Trade Secretary Liam Fox refused to endorse the EU retaliatory stance, instead, urging negotiations.
“It is very, very unfortunate if we get into this tit for tat position, especially with one of our closest allies,” stated Fox. “Nobody wins in a trade war, there are only casualties.”
The EU’s move comes after China and Mexico announced duties against U.S. agricultural goods in am effort to undermine American farmers in the red states.
