A new expense report recently revealed Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation has already cost taxpayers nearly $17 million.
According to reports on Thursday, the special counsel has spent nearly $8 million on staff salaries, travel, and rent. On top of that, the Justice Department spent $9 million in additional support.
The figures come from the latest expense tally released by the DOJ, charting Mueller’s probe from May 2017 through March of this year.
Some lawmakers are calling for an audit to ensure the money allocated by Congress is being spent appropriately.
However, Congress can do very little to cut funding from Mueller as his budget falls under a special Treasury Department account.
