U.S. Senate candidate Mike Kennedy is blasting his rival Mitt Romney, saying the failed presidential candidate is running to be the anti-Trump lawmaker in the U.S. Senate.
In an interview Tuesday, the Utah representative said Romney has frequently criticized President Trump yet enjoys his endorsement.
He said, unlike Romney, Utahans are deeply impressed with the president, because he’s straight forward and is getting a lot of work done.
Kennedy described Romney as a flip-flopper, who only came to Utah recently after serving as the governor of Massachusetts.
“The main thing that’s consistent about his record is it’s inconsistent,” said Kennedy. “He kind of goes back and forth, depending on the crowd that he’s talking to as to what he’s presenting, whereas, my record’s been quite consistent on conservative Utah values.”
Kennedy defeated Romney at the Utah Republican Convention, forcing them to face-off in the state’s primary later this month.
The representative, who also works as a family doctor, said Utahans are resonating with his message, because they support a candidate who lives and works in the state.
