The State Department issues a health alert for all of China after U.S. diplomats and staff members began suffering from a sound-related illness.
Friday’s notice described the symptoms as being consistent with those experienced by government workers in Cuba during last year’s alleged sonic attacks.
At least one employee has suffered a mild brain injury, and several others have returned to the U.S. to undergo medical evaluations.
The department is urging government workers to seek medical attention if they begin experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, headaches or a ringing in the ears.
The U.S. is working alongside China to uncover the source of the “abnormal sounds.”
