At least one person is dead, following a tense hostage situation at a Hollywood-area Trader Joe’s that lasted several hours.
The situation began around 3:30 pm local time, after a suspect allegedly shot his girlfriend and grandmother and drove his grandmother’s car into a pole outside a Trader Joe’s in the Silver Lake neighborhood.
After leaving the vehicle the gunman exchanged gunfire with police, before barricading himself in the store for several hours.
Police rescued shoppers and employees as they escaped through the front entrance and through windows along the side of the building.
One woman was shot and killed inside the store during the incident, while the grandmother is said to be in critical condition.
The gunman, who has been described as a 28-year-old African American man, later surrendered himself to authorities.
President Trump tweeted Saturday, saying he was watching the situation closely.
