A former hardware engineer for Apple is being accused of stealing secrets from the tech company.
Charges were filed against Xiaolang Zhang earlier this week, alleging he planned to take Apple’s secrets with him to his new job at a company which focuses on driverless vehicle technology.
Zhang was hired by Apple in 2015 to help the company develop self-driving cars, and was given access to confidential internal databases.
Authorities say Zhang admitted to downloading classified files onto his wife’s laptop, so he could access them after he turned in his work phone and computer when he resigned.
If convicted, he faces up to 10-years behind bars and a $250,000 fine.
