French officials say all of Europe is united against U.S. tariffs despite Germany showing a willingness to negotiate.
France’s finance minister said the White House should expect retaliation from Europe, as a whole to any further tariff increases.
His comments come as German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday she would support lowering EU levies.
In June, President Trump hit the EU, along with Canada and Mexico, with 25 percent tariffs on steel and 10 percent tariffs on aluminum.
Tensions escalated last month when he threatened to impose 20 percent tariffs on cars assembled in the EU.
