President Trump says he is looking forward to a good relationship with Mexico’s new president-elect.
The president said he held a conversation with newly elected president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador Monday in the oval office.
He said they talked about border security and NAFTA, and they even discussed a bilateral trade deal with only the U.S. and Mexico.
“We had a lot of good conversation, said President Trump. I think the relationship would be a very good one. We’ll see what happens. But I really do believe it’s going to be a very good one. He had a very excellent election. I would say, even better than anticipated, and I told him a number of years ago when I saw him campaigning for a different race, a different era, I said he’ll be someday the president of Mexico. So, he remembered that, and it turned out to be correct. We had a great talk.”
The new Mexican president-elect finally claimed victory after two previous failed runs for Mexico’s highest office.
