South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in said he is confident North Korea will follow through on promises it made at the Singapore summit.
On Thursday, Moon said negotiations between the U.S. and North Korea are on the “right track,” but the talks may take time.
The international community has expressed doubts that North Korea is committed to denuclearizing, but Moon said he believes negotiations will be successful.
“If Chairman Kim Jong Un keeps the promise of denuclearization, he will be able to lead his country into prosperity,” stated the South Korea president. “This path is never easy, but if the agreements at the summit are implemented with sincerity, the goal can be achieved.”
President Moon added, North and South Korea can come together economically once denuclearization is complete.
