The Air Force is ending its latest round of flying tests a month early after a plane crash left one Navy pilot dead.
A senior official made the announcement Tuesday. The offical said enough information was collected during the last few weeks to keep the overall OAX project running.
The Air Force is experimenting with two types of light-attack aircraft at a test range in New Mexico as it determines which model to buy.
The fly-off began on May 7 and turned tragic in late June after one of the aircraft crashed, killing Lieutenant Christopher Carey Short and injuring his co-pilot.
The cause of the fatal crash remains under investigation.
