The Senate confirms Robert Wilkie to be the next secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Wilkie was approved Monday on a 86-9 bipartisan vote.
The former Pentagon official won support from Republicans when he promised to fire bad employees and steer more patients to the private sector.
Wilkie was able to win over the required support from Democrats when he promised he would not completely privatize the government’s second largest department.
The new secretary succeeds David Shulkin who often times clashed with the White House.
Wilkie says he plans to shake up the complacency at the VA, which has struggled to provide medical service to millions of American veterans.
