A man crashes a passenger plane in Washington State, after performing an unauthorized take-off from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s office, the suspected hijacker is a 29-year-old airline mechanic, who allegedly performed aerial stunts with the plane.
A nearby military base dispatched two F-15 fighter jets, who diverted the aircraft away from residents, before it crashed into a nearby island.
“Apparently this was a plane that was stolen from SeaTac Airport. It was a very small two prop plane commuter aircraft was stolen. The person who stole it was either doing something as a kind of a lark or perhaps he was trying to harm himself. There were some stunts performed apparently by the plane over the sound and then he crashed into Ketron Island a small, not very highly populated wooded island, just off shore here. We have no indication of any casualties other than the person on the plane.” -Paul Pastor Pierce, County Sheriff of Washington
As of now, no other people have been reported hurt, and the airport has resumed normal operations.
