Turkish President Tayipp Erdogan is shedding light on his government’s probe into the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
In a speech Tuesday, Erdogan laid out a timeline his government has been working on since the initial investigation.
He confirmed Khashoggi was killed in a vicious manner in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, and said the killing was pre-meditated at the direction of Saudi officials.
Erdogan also revealed a local co-conspirator helped the Saudi team dispose of Khashoggi’s body, which contradicts previous claims that it was flown to Saudi Arabia.
“Blaming some intelligence members for this matter will neither satisfy us nor the international community,” stated the Turkish president. “The conscience of humanity will only be satisfied once everybody is called into account, from those who gave the orders to those who carried them out.”
Erdogan is now calling on the Saudi royal family to allow Turkey to order the suspects involved in Khashoggi’s death to stand trial in Istanbul.
