Uber’s CEO is pulling out of a high-profile Saudi conference amid reports the government may have been responsible for the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
On Thursday, Dara Khosrowshahi announced he will not attend the Future Investment Initiative, because he is troubled by reports of the alleged murder.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is sponsoring the event, and has denied accusations he is responsible for ordering Khashoggi’s murder.
Several media outlets, including the New York Times and Los Angeles Times, have already pulled out of the conference. CNN and Fox News are still evaluating their involvement.
Meanwhile, the controversy surrounding the missing journalist may also impact the sports entertainment industry. World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is also currently monitoring the situation.
This comes as WWE has an event scheduled in Saudi Arabia on November second. If the company ends up scrapping the deal, it could cost it tens-of-millions of dollars.
