Federal investigators are looking into allegations, claiming Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker accepted campaign money in violation of federal law.
A spokesperson for the office of the special counsel, confirmed the news this week.
The complaint stems from a left-wing organization, which claims Whitaker is in violation of the Hatch Act because he received over $8,000 in donations this year.
The money was sent between January and February, several years after his failed 2014 bid to become senator of Iowa.
Whitaker’s campaign treasurer has since responded, saying Whitaker did not ask for the money, which was used to pay back debt left over from campaigning.
