President Trump is defending U.S. relations with Saudi Arabia, amid allegations Saudi’s crown prince was involved in the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
While speaking with reporters Thursday from Mar-a-Lago, the president stood by his position to maintain a good relationship with Saudi Arabia, saying the country has been tremendously helpful in the war on ISIS, and protecting other U.S. allies in the Middle East.
He then claimed if the U.S. were to cut ties with Saudi Arabia, then our country would be at risk of losing billions of dollars in investments, and oil prices would also likely rise.
“No not at all. Saudi Arabia has been a longtime strategic partner. They are investing hundreds of billions of dollars in our country. I mean hundreds of billions. They are keeping our oil prices low.” – President Trump
The president pointed out Saudi Arabia’s royal family has vehemently denied any involvement in the murder of Khashoggi, saying he trusts their defense.
