The Special Counsel seems to believe democrats’ concerns over the appointment of acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker are misplaced.
The Counsel says the appointment of has no affect on its investigation, according to a brief filed with a D.C. Appeals Court today.
The court filing specifically relates to a subpoena fight regarding an associate of Roger Stone.
However, Special Counsel lawyers go out of their way to say Whitaker’s appointment doesn’t affect their efforts.
In short, they claim the powers and scope given to their prosecutors have already been established.
Nonetheless, democrats have used the appointment as a rallying cry.
Representatives Denny Heck and Ron Wyden have decried Whitaker’s promotion to acting AG “unconstitutional,” adding he hasn’t been subjected to Senate Confirmation.
According to the counsel’s attorneys, whomever is in-charge of the Justice Department has no impact on the case.
