Hundreds of people gather in Taiwan wearing yellow vests and chanting to demand lower taxes.
The demonstrations occurred outside the Ministry of Finance early Thursday, with organizers saying they were inspired by the yellow vest movement in France.
They also stressed the importance in creating tax reforms, which will help citizens trust the government.
“The entire system will have to follow the law (if tax laws are reformed). People will have a fair and transparent system, and people will not have to worry that their money might disappear.”
— Chen Tze-Lung, protest organizer
Taiwan was ranked 33rd on a list of the world’s highest taxed countries, while France came in at number 12.
