Several states are rolling out a test strip to help combat the opioid epidemic.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the new test strip works like pregnancy tests and can be used by heroin and cocaine addicts to test their drugs for fentanyl. The strips were originally intended to test urine but can instead be dipped in water mixed with a small amount of the drug to test if it was laced with the synthetic opioid.
The test will display the results in about a minute, with one line representing negative and two lines for positive.
Fentanyl has lead to thousands of deaths. Some state lawmakers hope handing out the strips will help addicts prevent overdoses.
